Food recalls in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland

Last reviewed 5 October 2026 against the sources listed below.

Food recalls in the UK are handled by two agencies: the Food Standards Agency (FSA) for England, Wales and Northern Ireland, and Food Standards Scotland (FSS) for Scotland.

How alerts are shared

  • Most recalls are UK-wide and published by the FSA. FSS lists them for Scotland too, linking to the FSA notice.
  • When a problem affects only Scotland, for example a product made and sold only there, FSS publishes its own alert. This site includes those: 27 so far, each labelled as a Food Standards Scotland alert and linked to its notice.
  • Where FSS republished a UK-wide FSA alert, we show it once, on the FSA recall page, with a link to the FSS notice.

Which nations an alert covers

Many FSA notices list the nations the product was distributed in. Where they do, each recall page shows it. Counts since 2018 (only alerts that list nations):

  • England394
  • Wales229
  • Scotland199
  • Northern Ireland134

Not every notice lists nations, so a missing nation does not mean the product wasn't sold there. Always check the product details.

Northern Ireland

The FSA covers Northern Ireland. Some recalls involve retailers trading mainly there, such as Dunnes Stores and Lidl Northern Ireland (shown under Lidl).

Signing up for official alerts

The FSA runs an email and text alert service for England, Wales and Northern Ireland. FSS runs its own for Scotland. See how to get recall alerts.
